The Manual

  1. Install once. Use Install app (top of this page) — or your browser menu's Install / Add to Home Screen. Porthole then launches fullscreen like any native app, no browser UI.
  2. Auto-open. The checkbox under the input decides behavior everywhere: on — links, shared URLs and pasted addresses launch straight into the window; off — Porthole shows a one-tap confirm before loading.
  3. Send any page here. Install the bookmarklet from “Get open-in-Porthole link”: tap it while on any site and that site opens inside Porthole — a one-tap “app mode” for anything on the web.
  4. Share into it. On Android, use the system Share sheet → Porthole to view the shared link app-style. On desktop, drop a URL onto the window or press G then type.
  5. Skip the address bar entirely. Set Porthole as your browser's homepage or new-tab page — typing a destination here feels exactly like an omnibox, minus the browser.

Destinations open as real top-level pages in this window — not embedded. That's why every site works: YouTube, Google, X, logins, payments. Nothing is framed, nothing can be blocked. Press the window's back button (or Esc before navigating) to return to the helm.
